David's Promotion
I have a study Bible that I enjoy. Seems like we all have our favorites. With me, there are certain things that will catch my hearts attention, should I say, in the different translations.
Anyway, in this particular Bible, as I was reading, there were subtitles. One particular subtitle was
“David’s Promotion”.
I thought that was intriguing so I continued. The very next line said; There was this giant named Goliath. I paused and thought
... Wait a minute...
Promotion?
Yes, promotion.
You see, some times in this life
there is stuff that needs to be taken care of.
Of course I would always
prefer that someone else do the hard stuff
and I get to choose what I want to deal with.
Good luck on that!
God had been preparing David for King
since he was a young boy.
He gave him the heart of a Shepard.
In doing that
David learned to love those sheep.
He loved them so much that
he risked his own life and safety for them.
There was one time in the field a lion
came upon the flock
and David Killed the Lion.
There was a time that the bear came upon the flock and
David killed the bear.
Now you and I know that that
talking
about killing a lion or a bear is the easy part.
However,
the actual killing,
the confrontation itself
of one on one with a bear or a lion
is a whole different experience.
Personally, I would have thought well those bears or lions are going to have a great meal today.
But.. that's just me!
So we can see that when David's father, Jessie sent him to the front of the camp
where his brothers were.
It wasn't just a happen chance,
God was setting up Goliath for defeat.
God was setting David up for a promotion.
Goliath comes out to the camps of Israel and mocks them and mocks God. This is apparently something that is very unwise to do in the
presence of a worshiper.
He continues to challenge Israel
to a battle of one on one.
Not one of the seasoned warriors came forward.
King Saul, which by the way
was a head and shoulder taller
than any man in Israel,
which certainly his size in the natural would have indicated... this guy might be the one who should be stepping up to the fight. Certainly his place as leader would indicate that as well,
wouldn't you think?
However this was not the case. Saul was hiding in the Kings palace.
But when David, the Shepard, the Worshiper
heard what was going on and the threatening of the Giant Goliath, he volunteered.
His brother gave him a hard time, the king also did. But David had killed the Lion and the Bear he asked them; Who is this uncircumcised Philistine?
First thing, that King Saul tried to give him was armor. The thing that would have been
fine for the king when in battle … but not for David.
David gathered the stones for his sling. His weapon of choice, the weapon he was trained on.
The one that worked for him.
When Goliath saw David coming for him, he was not pleased that such a young one was coming, such a small one was coming. He said hurry up... lets get this over with. I cut your head of and feed it to the fouls of the air.
This shows us that David was a student of the word of God. He knew his covenant with God. He knew that in Deuteronomy Moses told them that to have your head taken off and fed to the birds was a curse.
David said no! But today, I will take your head off and feed you to the fouls of the air.
So David killed Goliath, and with the giants own sword, cut off his head.
David was promoted.
He was soon King and the blood line to Jesus.

You might have heard the expression that
God offends
the mind to reveal the heart,
but it is quite another thing to experience it.
There has always been a controversial view in the Church
if a believer could have a possession issue.
From the back ground of my Christian walk the answer to that question way absolutely not.
Since I am not one who sees the devil behind every bush, door, cause or idea, I just let this particular thought process be something I needed to deal with but wasn't sure how it all worked. I more leaned toward the no that doesn't happen than … oh yeah..
devils everywhere.
I just wasn't that concerned about the answer to that question to tell you the truth. But you know how God is, He always has these surprise plans.
One Sunday morning while at church I had a vision. Without going into the vision at length, it pertained to coming up higher in the things of the Spirit.
That week I talked to the Pastor of that Church about the vision and He gave me permission to share it the following Sunday.
Awesome!
The next Sunday after worship I shared the vision, it was wonderful. I asked the Pastor if I could pray for the people. “Absolutely” he said.
The alter call was for those who wanted to come up higher in the things of the Spirit. I told them that this was a serious thing, and not to come up for prayer unless they where truly ready for and Up grade.
The whole congregation came up!
Cool!
So I started laying hands on the members.
My wife was on the front row praying for and with me concerning this time of ministry.
The first one I prayed for let out a weird scream and fell to the floor. So did the second, third, etc. By this time my wife was by my side to witness this event. I would say that about 98% of those I prayed for that day were delivered of some kind of devil or another.
You know I just was obeying God. Not trying to make a statement or make a doctrine.
This has continued to happen every sense then.
